The active ingredients emulsifies fats by dissolves the membranes of fat cells in the treated area.
Once the fat cells become unstable, they break down, and the body’s immune system then eliminates the fatty acids via the lymphatic system and liver.
Unlike liposuction, the treatment will also cause skin tightening in the area, so you are less likely to end up with loose skin feeling more contoured and toned.
The products will break down subcutaneous fat over a month and in most cases starts to work straight away once the product is injected.
The number of treatments required varies depending on the size of the fatty deposit.
Typically, 1-3 treatments for small areas, such as under the chin, and 4-6 treatments for larger areas such as the thighs.
Treatments are spaced at 6-8 weekly intervals. Your results will show in approximately 6 weeks after your final treatment. Please note results differ from patient to patient.
A reduction in fat in the targeted area can be noted a number of weeks post-treatment. The speed at which noticeable results are seen will vary depending on the stability of the cell membranes; younger clients are more likely to see results after a longer period. Fat reduction is permanent, for the fat cells are destroyed; they don’t come back. Of course, if more weight is gained, then the fatty appearance will return, but in proportion with the new shape gained.
As Fat Dissolving Injections are a non-surgical solution it means no downtime, there are some temporary side effects, which include bruising, swelling, redness and irritation in the injection area. Sometimes it may feel a slightly tender to touch, numb or itchy but these side effects usually reside after 1-3 days.
We have found with some clients the swelling with Aqualyx can last up to 2 weeks.

There are minimal side effects and the recommended treatment age is from 18 up to 60 years.
After a pre-treatment consultation the area of concern will marked out. The area can be numbed for you comfort and a number of small Aqualyx injection are administered using a fine needle make sure the area if fully covered. Aqualyx causes a slight burning sensation which goes quickly. Arnica gel is massaged into the area to help stop any busing and soothe the area.

Before Your Treatment
Many clients are concerned with having visible signs following their treatment. There are a few key steps you can take to help you both minimise visible bruising and swelling and recover as quickly as possible.
The more closely you follow these steps, the faster you will recover and the fewer signs will be visible:
Avoid any blood thinners (e.g. alcohol, aspirin, Vitamin E, some herbal preparations and supplements) for 2 days prior to and 2 days after treatment. Thin blood results in increased risk of bruising, so help minimise bruising risk by avoiding anything that can thin your blood.
Take arnica tablets as follows: 2 tablets every 2 hours for 5 days prior to the treatment. The 30c potency are best.
You may wish to purchase the products mentioned in the next section PRIOR to your treatment so you don’t need to visit the chemist after treatment.
Protocol for resolving bruising and swelling
Hot compress: very hot water, soak clean cloth, wring out very tight, lay over the face so that the heat and steam goes to the face. Repeat several times, ideally every 2 hours if possible.
Arnica cream: Available in Boots, apply generously before going to bed, will help resolve bruising.
Wearing a compression garment can help with the swelling (and results).
After Care Advice
Immediately after treatment, there may be slight redness, swelling, tenderness and an itching sensation in the treated area. This is a normal result of the injections. The inconvenience is temporary and generally disappears in a few days. If it continues or if other reactions occur, please call us. The results directly after the treatment should not be seen as the final result.
Avoid touching the treatment area 6 hours after the treatment. After that the area can be gently washed with soap and water, and light make-up can be applied in the case of the neck/jaw area after 24 hours.
Until the initial swelling has resolved, do not expose the treated area to intense heat (e.g. solarium and sunbathing) or extreme cold.
If you are using aspirin or any similar medication, be aware that these may increase the bruising and bleeding at the injection site.
If you experience persistent or increasing swelling and redness that might indicate infection, or bruising that is more than average please contact your therapist.
Fat dissolving injections are Vegan, made up of plant-based compounds that dissolve membranes of fat cells in the area treated.
With injectable treatments we follow strict guidelines for hygiene and disposing of clinical waste. So there is an element of waste with this treatment via the syringes and needles.
