The Dermalogica Melanopro Peel System is a professional-grade chemical peel that aims to reduce hyperpigmentation and dark spots, and improve skin texture.
The Dermalogica Melanopro is an effective & convenient way to improve pigmentation & skin quality. This peel treats superficial melasma, post acne marks & sun damage with minimal downtime & maximal results.
The science of Melanopro Peels
This peel system can reduce melasma pigmentation & age spots
With continued use this peel will markedly improve skin texture
Melanopro has very little downtime & compares favorably with Cosmelan peels
Melanopro is a two stage chemical peel
Stage one is performed in office
Stage two lasts 6 weeks & comprises at home skin care
What it is?
Melanopro Peel System is a clinical-strength peel program that delivers visible results in less than 6 weeks.
This transformative 2-phase regimen works to visibly counteract environmental skin damage – fading dark spots, reducing the appearance of hyperpigmentation, and smoothing skin’s texture to reveal fresh, brighter skin.
Who it’s for?
Melanopro Peel System is an effective treatment regimen for anyone who experiences hyperpigmentation concerns:
sun spots
scarring
melasma
dull skin
rough texture.
It has been tested on all skin tones.
What’s unique about it?
It is the first 2-phased clinical strength program that safely fades all forms of hyperpigmentation in under 6 weeks.
When is it best to have this treatment?
It is ideal to prescribe Melanopro Peel System in autumn or winter, when most clients receive less sun exposure. It has been extensively tested and is safe on all skin tones and ethnicities.
What types of pigmentation can the Melanopro Peel address?

Melasma Pigmentation
Caused by hormonal changes that can impact melanin production. These changes are often associated with pregnancy or when using birth control, and result in areas of hyperpigmentation that most commonly appear on the forehead, cheeks and upper lip. These dark spots often look like patches or a mask and may also be symmetrical.
MelanoPro is suited for superficial & mixed depth melasma pigmentation. Deep or dermal melasma responds better to microneedling treatments.

Sun Spots
Sun or age spots are related to excess sun exposure over time and considered
the most common form of hyperpigmentation. Generally, they
appear as spots on areas exposed to the sun, like the hands, neck, chest and face.
Age & sun related pigment can be effectively faded with this peel. It can be used on the face, chest & decolletage areas.

Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation
Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) is the result of inflammation or injury to the skin, for example, acne,
deep cuts or burns. PIH may appear differently in varying skin tones.
For example, a low Fitzpatrick client with PIH from breakouts may have
hyperpigmentation that appears pink or red, due to inflammation and
the color of the pheomelanin present in the PIH. The exact same PIH in a melanin-rich skin may appear purple, brown, or black due to the variations of eumelanin present in the PIH. MelanoPro can effectively treatment all types of PIH.

Dull Skin and Sun Damaged Skin
The Melanopro peel is one of the best ways to put life back into aging skin. It improves skin luminosity, reduces uneven skin texture & visibly brightens skin.

Pre treatment advice
These pre-service guidelines are important to follow to achieve the best results from the service.
Do not use topical skin care products containing ingredients that may increase skin sensitivity such as retinoids, exfoliants, topical antibiotics, or hydroxy acids one week prior to treatment.
Avoid Accutane six months prior to service. Consult with your prescribing physician for guidance.
Avoid waxing, depilatory creams, or electrolysis on face five days prior to treatment.
Avoid IPL/laser procedures at least two weeks prior to treatment.
Avoid unprotected sun exposure or sunburn at least two weeks prior to treatment.
Avoid experimenting with new skin care products 2 weeks before treatment.
Patch testing required
Prior to using the Melanopro Peel System. Patch testing is a way to gauge if a client may be contraindicated to treatment & is recommended if-
How the product is patch tested:
A small area behind the ears is cleanse.
A small amount of Day One Peeling Masque is applied behind the ear.
A small amount of Continuous Resurfacing Cream is also applied behind the ear.
During the patch test, you may experience a tingling sensation and/or warmth - this is normal. The creams are kept on the skin for up to 90 minutes and then remove with water. Monitor the area for 24-48 hours and inform the skin therapist of any skin changes. Watch for signs of extreme redness, rash, swelling or hives. If any of these appear, you may not be suitable for the Melanopro Peeling System.

How many sessions will I require to clear my pigment?
Melanopro is a two stage peel
Stage 1 is a in clinic treatment
Stage 2 is a 6 week at home treatment.
When will I see results?
Most patients will see results within a few weeks of treatment.
Week 1-2; skin will feel smoother.
Week 3-4; skin will look brighter with less pigment.
Week 4-6; maximal results will be noticeable.
*Melanopro is designed to reduce, not completely eliminate pigmentation.
What are the key ingredients of the Melanopro Peel?
Dermalogica has carefully selected key ingredients to optimize pigmentation removal, whilst mimicking the downtime associated with traditional peels. Ingredients are-
Azelaic Acid acts as a tyrosinase inhibitor, reducing melanin production while gently exfoliating the skin to speed up cell turnover and remove dull surface layers.
Tranexamic Acid, derived from amino acids, effectively reduces hyperpigmentation by inhibiting an enzyme crucial to melanin production, promoting a more uniform complexion.
Salicylic Acid (SA), or Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA), penetrates the skin’s lipid barrier, loosening the bonds between cells to encourage the shedding of dead skin, resulting in smoother, more even-toned skin.
Glycolic and Lactic Acids, both AHAs, disrupt the cohesion between skin cells to exfoliate the outer layers and also provide moisturizing benefits.
Retinol, a potent form of Vitamin A, enhances cell turnover and reduces melanin synthesis, leading to a brighter, more even skin tone.
Niacinamide, also known as Vitamin B3, prevents melanin from reaching the skin’s surface by inhibiting the transfer of melanin-containing melanosomes to keratinocytes, reducing dark spots and uneven tone.
Acetyl Hexapeptide-1, a depigmenting peptide, decreases melanin production and transfer, contributing to a more even complexion.
How does the MelanoPro compare with Cosmelan peels?
Cosmelan & Dermamelan peels have significant downtime, namely 7 to 14 days. These peels work faster but at the expense of prolonged skin inflammation & irritation.
In contrast the Melanopro peel has only 2-3 days of mild peeling with little to no downtime with simlar results.
Can the Melanopro Peel be customized to different skin types?
MelanoPro peels are suitable for all skin types & can be customised for sensitive skin.
Skin type 1,2 (European, Caucasian): peel time 7 hours
Skin type 3,4 (Asia, Middle Eastern): peel time 6 hours
Skin type 5,6 (Indian, African): peel time 5 hours
The Process...

Day 1: In clinic treatment peeling masque
Intensive peeling masque to target persistent hyperpigmentation.
Ingredients: 10% Azelaic acid is combined with Salicylic Acid, Tranexamic Acid, Retinol, Niacinamide, and a brightening peptide: Acetyl Hexapeptide-1.
Mode of action: The masque kick-starts intense exfoliation and starts to fade the appearance of hyperpigmentation. Due to its masque texture, it does not dry down and allows for the ingredients to provide continuous benefits.
Application / removal: Applied & left on the skin for 3-7 hours. It is removed at home.

Continuous Resurfacing Cream
Intensive peeling cream to target pigmentation challenges.
Ingredients: 10% Azelaic Acid is combined with Salicylic Acid, Tranexamic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Retinol, Niacinamide, Hexylresorcinol and a brightening peptide: Acetyl Hexapeptide-1.
Mode of action: The cream is applied daily to stimulate continuous exfoliation, brighten skin, smooth texture and reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation.
Application: 2-3 times per day, following the instructions of the professional skin therapist.

Ultracalming mist
Soothing, hydrating mist to help calm redness and sensitivity. Use post- cleanse and throughout the day to soothe the skin and lock in hydration. Lightweight mist quickly absorbs to support a functioning skin barrier, helping to minimize future flare-ups.
Ingredients: UltraCalming Complex contains Oat and botanicals to help soothe and strengthen skin, and soothing Aloe helps calm while supporting a natural moisture balance in skin
Application: Use as often as needed during the Melanopro Peel System following the instructions of the professional skin therapist.
Understanding the process
1. The MelanoPro Peel System is a 2 part system.
Part one is an in clinic treatment that is applied and you have to go home with the mask on the skin (this mask is white in colour) and is left on for the time set by your skin therapist (it could be up to 8 hours).
Part 2 is a 6 week home treatment where a treatment cream is applied 1-2 times a day depending on tolerance. This could be up to 6 weeks.
Home treatment information:
• 3 days after your in clinic treatment, apply a five pence piece amount of the Continuous Resurfacing Cream twice a day (AM and PM).
• After starting the cream, the skin may feel stimulated upon application (for the first few days). This feeling should dissipate within 15-20 minutes. If the stimulation is felt longer, please consult with your skin professional. They will either suspend the use of the cream for a few days or reduce usage to one daily application.
• If skin feels sensitive, spray Dermalogica UltraCalming Mist to soothe skin. Use as often as needed.
• If skin is uncomfortable during peeling process, suggest a suitable additional moisturiser such as Stabilizing Repair Cream to be applied over Continuous Resurfacing Cream. Note: This is an exception to the rule and shouldn't be recommended as standard practice.
• Apply cream up to three times per day, for up to six weeks (or until entire tube is used)
3. Both parts of the treatment have to be carried out to give its full treatment results.
4. The first 7 days are usually the most challenging part of the treatment. If skin is too sensitive, stop using the cream for a day, or reduce the daily use to 1 or 2 times rather than 3. For anyone prone to more sensitivity, choose a progressive approach. Results will come, but they might take a little longer. Stay in touch daily with your skin care professional.
5. From day 15 onwards, results become more and more visible. Skin should not be sensitive anymore. If possible, it is a good time to maximize results and use the cream 3 times daily (if sensitivity permits). Share your progress with us; clients usually get compliments during this time.
Frequently ask questions
Apart from tingling and a slight feeling of sunburn, what else can be experienced on their skin?
Skin redness and a slight irritating sensation, tingling and occasional itchiness is the most common effects. If there
is swelling, extreme redness or it is highly uncomfortable, discontinue the peel. The skin usually peels between days 3 and 7.
We have had instances where peeling lasted up to 14 days (about 2 weeks), but it is rare.
What skin treatment would you suggest once home care has been completed?
Pro Calm is a great option to boost hydration, soothe and calm the skin. You will often find that the client might need at least
2-3 weeks after Melanopro Peel System before their next professional skin treatment.
Once the Day One Peeling Masque is applied in the skin center and you go home do you need to keep the Masque moist through the day?
No, you do not. You leave it on for the suggested time and gently remove with water.
What do I do if I cannot tolerate the Day One Peeling Masque and need to remove it?
Be very gentle and remove the masque with tepid water and fingertips and then spray the skin with UltraCalming Mist.
If skin is somewhat flushed, wait 3-4 days before using the cream.
If skin is looking highly irritated, swollen and there is a certain level of pain then you will need to come back to the clinic and it is best to stop the Melanopro Peel System in this situation.
How often can Melanopro Peel System be performed?
Melanopro can safely be performed every six months.
Can Melanopro Peel System be offered during the summer months?
If you can keep out of the sun and follow the therapists instructions then Melanopro can be offered during summer. It is
however recommended to offer Melanopro in fall and in winter where there is less sun exposure which may interfere with the
effectiveness of the treatment.
Can I use my usual serums while using the Continuous Resurfacing Cream during the Melanopro treatment?
It is not recommended to use serums during the Melanopro Peel System treatment as these may interfere with the effectiveness of Melanopro. We strongly suggest following the instructions as per the instructions and the recommendation from the skin therapist for optimal results.
How do I remove the peel at home?
Your clinician will give you a specified time to remove this peel; ranging from 2 to 7 hours. This is done at home. It’s best to remove and rinse peel with cold or lukewarm water. Do not rub with a towel. Use hands to remove, making light fingertip circles on wet skin. This will remove the peel. Avoid any heavy friction, as skin may become more sensitive.
Have there been any clinical trials for MelanoPro?
Yes, there has:
Dark spot corrector:
After six weeks of using the MelanoPro Peeling System topically, there was a notable reduction in the total number and area of dark spots by 9.7% and 14.4%, respectively, compared to baseline measurements. Additionally, there was a statistically significant improvement in skin homogeneity between the dark spots and normal skin by 9.8%, along with a 9.2% decrease in skin contrast, relative to Day 0.
Skin brightness:
Regarding the global brightness assessment, the data showed that treatment with the MelanoPro Peeling System led to a significant 28.6% increase in specular brightness and a 35.1% reduction in diffuse brightness compared to baseline values at day zero. While there was a non-significant 5.3% increase in overall brightness, a small but significant effect of 2.5% was observed for skin lightness.
Improvements in skin roughness:
For the analysis of surface roughness, results indicated a reduction of 12.9 to 14.1%.
What other aspects of skin can the Melanopro peel address?
This peel is one of the most effective skincare products for improving skin texture. The unique combination of skincare acids (AHA & BHA) provides unparalleled exfoliation. The result? Smoother skin with an improvement of textural roughness, in addition to brighter & more radiant skin.
